I´m very glad to debut my column at Hard Blast talking about one of 2009´s best hard rock albums: the also debut one of Hot Leg, called "Red Light Fever". This band´s biography started with “The Darkness”, who got known by the hit "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" in the middle of 2004, when the singer and guitarist Justin Hawkins decided to quit. The reasons were drug addiction and the rockstar routine, too tiring, according to Justin.

After spending some time in a rehab program, Hawkins started working on new songs to accomplish the idea of a solo project to be released in the end of 2007.

Some demos were spread on the Internet, although Hawkins announced in 2008 to have founded this great group called Hot Leg. Besides Justin, the line-up is formed by the guitarist Pete Rinaldi (Anchorhead), bassist Samuel "SJ" Stokes (The Thieves) and the drummer Darby Todd (Protect the Beat).

Well, line-up chosen, songs ready, managers waiting: time to record! After 6 months in studio, finally "Red Light Fever" was released on the 9th of February in Europe and the 17th in the US. Repercussion was excellent for a debut album released by a small label: it got the 81st position on the English charts and the singles "Cocktails" and "I've Met Jesus" got respectively the 84th and the135th positions in Queen Elizabeth´s land.

In music terms "Red Light Fever" handles perfectly what the old audience of The Darkness would expect; a simple Hard Rock, funny and well done. You can still feel The Darkness´ essence even because Justin Hawkins wrote, by himself, almost the entire album. And of course, his voice is still perfect, counting on those great highs and clean voice tone that has captivated the fans. The other guys from the band own nothing to Hawkins´ former fellows. Pete Rinaldi gives a present to the listeners with a perfect 6-string work, influenced by world´s guitar gods such as Angus Young (AC/DC), Ace Frehley (Kiss) and Eddie Van Halen, while Samuel "SJ" Stokes and Darby Todd don´t give us even a second of disappointment with solid and strong passages and very good backing vocals they all do together.

At last, listening to this album is really recommended to all those who love rock n' roll with no compromise. This is  Justin Hawkins copyright!
