What do these guys think?
By: Maila-Kaarina

In this section Hard Blast asked some questions to some real cool rock guys we considered important taking in consideration their career. We talked to Bob Daisley, long term musician who has played with some of the most important bands such as Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Ozzy Osbourne, Uriah Heep, among others, Jape Perätalo, singer of the Finnish band To Die For, that will be soon starting a South American Tour (they will be in Brazil on the 7th and the 8th of June) and keyboard payer Santeri Kallio, from the band Amorphis, a very representative one to all progressive death metal fans.

1) Do you believe a woman has more to prove and has a more difficult path to walk in rock business than men? Why or why not.

Bob Daisley
I'd have to say yes and no. Yes, because it's male-dominated and often women aren't taken seriously enough - and no, because women are less common in the industry and therefore have less competition and have a built-in gimmick with being a girl.

Santeri Kallio
There is less women in rock business for sure, but I am not sure is that because of the expectations to the gender. I would imagine that it comes from the fact that there has been so much less women rockers and men have dominated the resources thru the ages. I think the roots for this comes from the parents who like to raise their daughters to be more kind and less rebellious than their sons. And that makes the choice to become an artist at young age more difficult for girls.

Overall in music business the possibilities for women and men musicians are pretty much the same: there is no pity-points, playing technique (and composition skills) must be top quality and the passion to make music have to come from the heart. This is a good starting point and will carry you pretty far. Never mind the gender.

Jape Perätalo
I think so in the beginning but…women also will be treated better than, specially if she is sexy and sounds good J. So…Yes, women need to be more than men in the music business. If there were a girl as ugly as Motorhead guys I guess it would be more difficult for her to get a record deal.

2) Which female rock star do you admire the most? Why is she special?

Bob: Although she's not really a 'rock' star, I've always admired Shania Twain. She's a good singer, good writer, a beautiful, sexy woman and a very good pers on.

Santeri:
I like the Pussycat Dolls, their music is so incredible deep and varies from artistic stuff to more experimental and deeper dimentions. Their presence is right there and I can really feel the rhythm. It is almost touchable! Their music makes me become hot! And they are truly genius composers and arrangers. I think they will make it really far like The Stones, Floyd and The Eagles. They also have written great videos.

Jape: Lita Ford…sounds good and looks sooooo sexy!

3) What do you expect from a rock chick and what would you consider a big mistake in her attitude?

Bob: I expect talent as a singer and/or musician. A big mistake in attitude is thinking you're better and more talented than you really are, and 'big-headedness' is a mistake, no matter how good you are.

Santeri: I think the rock chick has to be able to drink Vodka, Whisky and Absinth, she never sleeps, have lots of tattoos all over the place, look like a hedgehog and piss motor-oil... and be nice to the boys of course. Being open minded is always good too. A mistake would be not to remember to be careful out there. Or to say yes to everything just because of an attitude.

Jape: Girls can do the same things men do but if a girl pukes on the stage I would not wanna kiss her:) Like you know…Courtney Love is a bit too dirty kind of bitch

4) What's your opinion about the women's international day? (be free to disagree)

Bob: It's a good idea, bring it on. I love women! All of them!

Santeri: Well, all the rest 364 days seems to be men’ s days so this day is worth of celebrating. Every man should know that this day is the day NOT to forget! Happy women’s day!

Jape: Sounds very nice! Women are very special. Without them men would have never built this world, NEVERRRR:) I love women and they deserve their own day!
