Traditional Power Metal is what they play and they do it good!
The audience was excited on the 5th of April at Circo Voador. The place wasn´t crowded but it was full of real fans of one the the best and most representative power metal bands of Brazil: ALMAH – Edu Falaschi´s band.
Edu is a long term well known musician from San Paulo who is also Angra´s singer. Angra is surely the biggest band of Brazil nowadays and being its front man has opened excellent doors to Edu, who decided during a period the band took a break, to go on with his own project. |

Fragile Equality is the band´s second album and one of the several good results Almah has achieved being for sure just the beginning. Angra´s break is over, though. They are back and will soon start touring but Almah is not gonna fade as Edu has been saying.
Almah isn´t much different from Angra if you think of the two first albums but if you compare it with the post 2001 releases, I´d say it´s better, heavier, with more personality and songs are really made for Edu´s voice, something that didn´t use to happen so much with Angra since he was supposed to sing songs tuned for the previews singer, André Mattos and had to follow a personality which wasn´t actually his singing one.

It has changed within the years since new songs were made but there was something lost there and with Almah it could be found.
They started with Birds of Prey, the song which also opens the album Fragile Equality and the audience got crazy. It was possible to see people showing written messages for Edu with sayings like “Edu, today is my birthday.”, “Almah is the best.”, so on and so forth. Most of people sang all songs and everybody got in front of the stage from the first to the last minute.
The band is good! The black and the blond guitarists Marcelo Barbosa and Paulo Schroeber showed speed, technique, beautiful solos and the most important thing: interaction. Felipe Andreoli kicked ass with his 6-string bass and fast fingers playing with no pick, beautiful to see, Marcelo Moreira played as strong as a Heavy Metal drummer always should do and one thing must be emphasized: the sound was perfect. It was possible to listen to each instrument with very good equalization. The drumming was strong, full of great kicking and exciting cymbals, guitars were perfectly distinct, we could feel both guitarists styles, bass lows were making us feel them in the chest and Edu´s singing was very good too.
Edu Falaschi is a real charismatic artist, extremely kind, gives attention to the audience, talks to them and pays attention to everything which is going on around. There is an artistic essence in his way of being who must be considered by anybody, being or not a fan of his work.
The audience wouldn´t cool down and when they played the 10th song of the concert, the heavy and punched Torn, people once more screamed and sang non stop. It was the best moment of the show and this song is definitely the best with its thrash metal and progressive influences.
The set list was a mix of both Almah releases and some Angra ones such as Nova Era and Bleeding Heart, Edu played the keyboards, sang beautiful ballads and they gave us a great time.
Almah is a band we could easily watch at any European summer rock festival cause they sound just like great stuff from there and it is surely one of the Brazilian´s metal best representative band. |
