Blaze Bayley – Circo voador – Rio de Janeiro
By: Maila-Kaarina Riippa

Blaze Bayley´s concert in Rio de Janeiro took place on the 19th of January at Circo Voador, a very hot summer Monday evening. Is there anywhere in the world where Mondays are pleasant? I really don´t think so and don´t believe it would change much even being a day before holiday as it was. It doesn´t matter that much, though, for those who really love rock and metal cause these true people will always be there. And they were!!!

The concert wasn´t crowded and it´s a pity because I was really surprised by the quality of Blaze´s music and his band, which is excellent.

The line-up formed by Nico Bermudez and Jay Walsh on the guitars, bass player David Bermudez and Larry Paterson on the drums did an excellent job not only by their good playing but also by the energy all of them, including Blaze of course, spread all over Circo Voador from the first to the last song, helped by great light design and very good sound; heavy, full of punch and well equalized.

Another important thing to mention is that in spite of not being crowded all people who were there joined in the band in matters of energy. It was really hot but people didn´t stop for a minute and there had been a long time since the last I saw a so excited audience and a mosh circle. I saw it yesterday and felt almost nostalgic.

Not everything was perfect but not actually because of Blaze. The concert started really late! At about 1:30 am. And there was a big mistake made by the event´s production: 2 unnecessary warm-up bands nobody had ever heard about, and the first band started playing when it was already 10:30 pm.

I´m not against warm-up bands but two of them, playing late for over 30 minutes on a hot Monday night doesn´t seem to be what people want, really...

It was very exhausting to wait for Blaze´s concert and many people were complaining a lot, including me...
However, when Blaze got on the stage he could really make everybody stand up and be there for the next 2 hours, screaming, singing and jumping.

Blaze is great doing his own music and I was able to forget completely about the “Iron Maiden mistake” and feel like apologizing for not have given him a chance before. But I´m not the only one and I guess he knows it more than anybody else. I believe he could forgive me...
Another high point for me was his charisma and the way he talked to the audience. Short speeches talking about the true metal heart and the love for all that. It sounds cliché, I know, cause it´s all obvious but he didn´t just say words to apple polish. We could see in his eyes and by all his attitude that he was talking with his heart, he really meant all that and it was great to see and listen.

I don´t think I am the best person to write a review about the show since there were many songs I didn´t know but I am a good person for trying to pass you the impressions I´ve got by a great heavy metal concert, very well done by a very experienced and yes, talented veteran musician who deserves all metal lovers attention at least as a matter of respect. I respect Blaze Bayley and this is what made me go there but now I have to say that my respect has increased and he´s got a new fan.
I liked very much Blaze Bayley´s music.
