Señor Stressor Cozy Place

I got really happy when my dear friend Maila invited me to share some of my love for the extreme music with you.

I´m not a journalist and neither an expert in the subject despite being an extreme and passionated fan of this style, misunderstood most of times, but real and captivating.

I hope you like my impressions about the subject.

And since we´re here, how about some serial killer stories?

Señor Stressor

How can we explain the dedication and admiration some people have for this style, “cursed” and “impossible to understand” by ordinary people?

Perhaps the explanation is a strong will to get out of the obvious and acceptable.
In the beginning of death metal and grind core, in England, USA and Scandinavia, the goal of the pioneers was not selling millions of albums nor fame and fortune. They wanted to be the most brutal band in the planet!

This way of thinking, with some exceptions, of course, is found in this genre nowadays and turns it more into a passion than a product, pure and simple.

In spite of the large number of instant successful hits (ephemeral!) selling and popularity, the extreme music is alive and productive (with some occasional oscillation) in an underground level, since the beginning of the movement in the end of the 80´s with the first bands. And it´s possible because of a very loyal audience who is not interested in following trends but in fact to support the bands, the events and the extreme scene itself.

Thank this loyal army, we have bands like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel , Entombed, Dismember and others, strong and firm in the scene until now, playing non “radio friendly” music since the end of he 80´s.

So, if you are one of us, be cool, the extreme metal has been into a great phase which shows there it´s here to stay.

Death Chain – Death Eternal – Finlândia

Death Chain – Death Eternal – Finland
By: Señor Stressor
They are from the ice cold Finland, country which gave us some of the HC pioneers such as Terveet Kädet, Rattus and the hard core ones of the black /punk, Impaled Nazarene. The death/thrash band Deathchain did a great job with the album “Death Eternal”.
The CD already begins with the band showing what they are here for with the fast and intense "Titans of Black Earth”, full of blastbeats and guttural vocals but also with elements of thrash rifferama and  in some moments.
This dynamic mixing extreme moments and mid tempo ones is very well used by them, it´s a highlight in an ocean of bands which are more worried about speed than substance.
Good examples can be found in “Awaken Horror of this Earth” (with an “a la Morbid Angel” riff) and “The Ancient and the Vile” (whose vocals remind us a lot “Where the Slime Lives “ of Morbid Angel).

The punch of a thrash accent in several songs make their music richer and turns their sound into a “more accessible” pattern to those not so radical headbangers, as you can hear in “Monolith and Death”, which starts as heavy as Nile and then opens space to “thrasher” riffs.

The final track in the interesting “Incantations of Shubb Niggurath”, that starts full of atmosphere  in a continuous crescendo until getting to a climax with a brutal punch, blast beats and a nervous riff.

The production is excellent and the musicians performance impeccable. But a differential you can see in Death Chain is evident in which concerns to guitars solos.

They are not very present and follow more the line of themes, like Immolation style, and not that rain of chaotic notes completely unnecessary but a lot seen in the recent death metal scene.

To sum up, Death Chain is a grateful surprise as a band which has been on  the road for some time ( this is their fourth album, but I didn´t know them).
It is really worth to check out.

WEIRDOS:

Ed Gein –
All those who have watched (who hasn´t!) Silence of the Lambs, Psycho or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, have already been in touch with the “work” of this insane serial killer.

Since he was a child, Ed lived on a farm in Plainfield, Wisconsin, with his alcoholic dad, his religious and manipulative mom and his little brother.

After his father´s death, he and his brother became “the men in charge of the house”.
Actually their mom would totally control them, inciting them not to get married, cause according to her, no woman would worth it since they only destroyed families. Besides the fact that “having sex” was a big sin, of course!

His brother died mysteriously in a fire accident and his mom, a little after, of a stroke. Suddenly Ed saw himself alone on the farm so he decided to cultivate a bizarre obsession by the female anatomy.
He used to make demands working as a handyman around the neighborhood and was considered by the others as some kind of “inoffensive weirdo”.

Together with a partner, after reading obituaries, they started unearthing corpses (for “scientific purpose” as he said) and kept some of the parts such as heads, genitals, hearts and intestines in his house.

He started to sew clothes made of human skin and even worn them in some occasions.
When his partner was put into a mental institution for insanity, Ed had to stop unearthing  corpses so he decided to start committing murders.

It´s proved that he killed 2 people from his county, the manager of a bar he used to attend by gunshot, and the substitute Cherif´s mother (who was found hung in a hook on Ed´s farm). Police, though, found pieces of over 15 corpses in his house.

On the bizarre farm they found furniture, clothing and  accessories made by human body parts, including some of his own mother. They also found signs of cannibalism since some of those “parts” were found in the refrigerator.

Considered insane, Ed was taken to a psychiatric hospital in 1957 and stayed there arrested until 1984, after dying of natural causes, with 77 years old.

During his staying there his behavior was good and he was considered extremely caring.

2 films about Ed: "Ed Gein" and " Deranged".
2 songs about Ed : "Ed Gein" (Macabre) and "Dead Skin Mask " ( Slayer).
See ya!
